Boots - Longing to Hold You Near
Danny Hunter's bluesy voice really makes this song. The song is short and catchy and the musicians obviously know their chops. The use of the accordian is interesting and appropriate to this song but may not appeal to some listeners. This is a good country song to dance to and has a very upbeat and happy feel to it. I like that this is more traditional than a lot of the "new country" I have heard recently (it's rather hard to tell the difference between this "new country" and modern pop music a lot of the time, if you know what I'm saying.) The guitars sound fantastic.

Longing to Hold You Near

I just loved this. And you know what, I don't even like country. But then is it really country? I know so little about this kind of stuff - it sounded more grassroots to me. It's the singers voice, the backing vox, twangy guitar and the accordion that do it for me. How old is the singer? If you don't mind me saying he sounds at least octogenerian - and it just gives this wonderful flavour of like some old guy who's still as randy as the day he was 15 at some fun party asking all the girls to the floor - and indeed holding them near. It makes me feel like drinking whisky, and I do like drinking whisky. Listening to this I imagine some party with this band playing, and I'm sitting getting sozzled having the most ridiculous conversation with someone and...oh flashback time. Foot tapping number, driven along nicely. Is it really live? I wasn't sure about that. Great song. perfect really...nothing to change. I feel like a cop out on this one... what do I say? D'you have an mp3.com site? I'll stick this on my station over there. Fun, fun, fun.

Boots (Danny Hunter), Longing To Hold You Near

Danny Hunter has a distinct voice. I stumbled upon him while looking for some country music for a show. Instantly I lost the usual distancing I have towards country music. Although extremely well produced and performed this is not slick music without substance aka New County, in some ways it takes from the older forms of country and adds parts of
Americana (although Boots is Canadian, we'll forgive him) and roots rock.

Danny is in good voice with a snappy, instantly recognizable melody and the kind of song that is difficult to find fault with so I won't. Country haters, start here, learn about the craft of making a good song, who knows you might get addicted.

Boots --Danny has made me look at country in a whole new way. He takes us back and shows us what it was meant to be. Danny has a great voice that is full of emotion and has a nice edge to it. This is a great little dance number and he is in excellent form here! I wish more did country like this...I might be more inclined to listen...

Boots - Longin' to Hold You Near

Can I get some more crayfish and another beer? I'm tempted to call this the best of genre in this thread just because it is so perfectly performed. I could see myself in a smoky little club down in Louisiana having the time of my life. Well deliverd vocals and the really nice female B/G vocals just like icing on the crack musicians. Just gimme that old time roots music and my soul will be fine

Longing to Hold You Near

Right from the beginning, my foot started stomping, and yes I admit, a hee-haw or two was blurted out loud! All the elements of a great country song are present, with maybe a touch of that Louisiana sound. Dannys vocals have a perfect range and inflections for storytelling.

A fun song from a fun guy. Now, why wouldnt the women in his life notice that bout Boots?

Baptist Death Ray
Boots - Longing to Hold You Near

This song is very different from a traditional song in this genre. In a traditional song, the woman shows up, steals the mans heart and soul, and leaves him, high and dry, in one of those emotional places that men don't like to sing about unless they're Chris Issak.

In this version, however, you get the feeling the singer is grinning through the entire piece, declaring that the entire experience, including whatever heartache followed, was absolutely worth it -- and that he's looking forward to the next time. The cheerfulness in this song makes the (admittedly dysfunctional) relationship between the woman and the singer that much more interesting, and complicated.

Danny Hunter - Longing to hold you near

I cant get enough of this song. The arrangement is perfect and Dannys voice has that honest sincerity that makes you listen closely to every word. The harmonies do the job they were intended to do, filling out in all the right places. The way the accordion solo slipped into a slide guitar solo had me hitting the replay button over and over again. Left up to me Id add some low end to the bass guitar, but thats only a personal preference. Great song. Let me go listen again.

Yea Baby!!

red beans and rice!
and.....pickup truck???

ha ha ha ha!!

it's the zydeco country hay rack ride with a little lust in the dust thrown in for good measure!
This is a GREAT tune!
A lot of fun!..with a genuine country feel.
I generally dont like this kind of stuff...
and..as I was listening to this set of tunes a while back I nearly took this one off the playlist..but I didn't..I kept it there and kept hearing it every 9th tune...and.IT STARTED TO WORK!!
ha ha!

I actually started to look forward to it!
now it's inseperable from the rest of the set!
it actually has begun to work well with the set!
I don't know if this is dementia..or self induced hypnosis...or if I've just been a closet cajun country boy waiting for gestalt!!

whatever it is...this one won me over!

Danny Hunter - Forever is a Long Long Time
Review by Banker

No Sleeping through this one. An uptempo beat and a feel of
classic country rock. There is one tasty guitar solo on
this one that makes you think the guy might have been a Bluesman that fell off the wagon. This is good. Turn it
up and sit back.

Danny Hunter (aka Boots)
With the help of some superbly talented musicians has managed to create an amazing catalog of Alternative Country and Rockabilly music. If you aren't a fan of country music this material will show you what good country music is like (and probably make you a fan, if reluctantly.) Country music fans will love it. Hunter writes all his own music and provides a new spin on the traditional style. His voice is strong, bluesy and powerful and blends beautifully with the often included female backup vocals. Fancy fiddling, piano and guitar work all combine to make for an excellent listening experience. Don't miss it, listen to Boots today
